About the Topic:

While our economy, defense, and people increasingly depend on software and systems that are trustworthy, systems are growing larger and more complex with increasing threats and attacks that challenge our ability to design and develop trustworthy software systems. A new research program at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, called the Trustworthy Information Systems (TIS) program, is investigating technologies, methods and tools that offer potential solutions for effectively building and deploying trustworthy software systems. This presentation will discuss the concept of trustworthiness, describe key aspects of the TIS program, highlight initial projects and activities, and identify future areas being considered.

About the Speakers:

Tom Rhodes is Program Manager of the Trustworthy Information Systems (TIS) program in the Information Technology Laboratory at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He has over 30 years experience in software, computer, and networking technologies, both in government and private industry. His interests include software architectures and environments, software quality and assurance, security, metrology, integration, interoperability, and SDLC improvements. He has participated in professional and standards organizations, including IEEE, ANSI, OASIS, OMG, ECMA, NEMI, IPC, and RosettaNet, and has a degree in Electronic Engineering with graduate work in Mathematics at American University.
