CONTEST RULES

1.The contestant shall review Cards On-Line scenario, document the requirements for Version 2.0 derived from the two interviews, and explain their testing approach to assure that Version 2.0 meets or exceeds the expected quality level.

2.The contestant shall determine the title of the essay.

2.Essays shall be written electronically (double-spacing required) 8 1/2 by 11 inch page with 1 1/2 inch margins.

3.Essays shall contain no less than 1000 words and nor more than 1500 words.

4.Essays shall be written in English.

5.Each entry shall begin with a title page containing the following information:

·Author's name, address, and telephone number

·Name of college, or university

·Standing in school (High School Senior, College Freshman, College Sophomore, or College Junior)

·Anticipated Major and Minor field of study

6.The essay shall begin with an abstract that summarizes the paper’s content.(Note:the abstract does not contribute towards the word count requirement.)

7.No reference may be made in the manuscript that identifies the contestant or the specific geographical area where he or she lives.

8.Each page of the entry shall be numbered consecutively starting with the first page of the actual manuscript (not the title page).The page number should be centered at the bottom of each page.

9.All entries shall be submitted electronically to the SSQ Grant-In-Aid Chairman (ambuehl@abbnm.com).  Documents should be in rich text format (*.rtf).

10.The SSQ Grant-In-Aid Chairman shall uniquely number each entry and remove the title page information so there will be no identification of the entries during blind judging.

11.A panel of SSQ judges shall individually rank the entries in each category.The SSQ Grant-In-Aid Chairman shall compute the combined ratings and determine the winner in each category.

PENALTIES

1.Failure to write on the official subject will result in disqualification.

2.Failure to include an abstract: deduction of five points.

3.Failure to stay within the prescribed maximum or minimum number of words; deduction of five points for each 250 words above or below.

4.Self-identification in the body of the essay will result in deduction of five points or fraction thereof (depending on degree, based on the decision of each individual judge.)

5.Failure to double space: deduction of five points.

6.Failure to identify non-original material will result in disqualification.

SCORING

Scoring will conform to the following schedule of points:

1.Material Organization (interpretation of the subject, adherence to theme and logic) - 40 points

2.Vocabulary and Style (language, phraseology, and continuity) - 30 points

3.Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling - 20 points

4.Page Layout - 5 points

5.Adherence to Contest Rules - 5 points

DEADLINE

All entries must be received by May 1st, 2002 in order for them to eligible.
